Signals and Signs

Rows of receptors positioned just so
to capture signals from galaxies aglow
Six decades, billions spent, not one signal yet
not a peep of protest nor an ounce of fret...

Signs and wonders we all see every day
of great changes in nature's immutable ways
Arctic whales in France, crocodiles on beaches
Who thinks about what this teaches

Great message Gershon. Had to come buy and receive some of that Gershon wit...

I'm not Rita Morena in West Side Story. I'd rather be witty than pretty... Even that is questionable, of course. Am I witty? Am I witty? Am I witty; I'm not pretty; how 'bout wise?... Leonard Bernstein must be groaning somewhere...

"crocodiles on beaches" will keep me off beaches forever now.

Yes, since there is so much life out there why have we not heard something? I enjoyed reading this one today. I am glad that I chose it. Thanks ..Sara

Your powerful poem gets an important message across, Gershon. There will be plenty of time to probe the outer reaches of space. It isn't going anywhere. It's our planet that needs attention now. :) Evelyn

You are right! We are like Johnny Five the robot…need more input…but we forget to take in what’s in front of us.

someone once told me the moon was as dead planet. I asked them "who killed it!"

I guess the moon won't make it as Planet Fitness...

I couldn't agree more Gershon. Billions waisted on technology just to capture pictures and sounds from space. Instead, that same money should first be used to clean up our planet and save our wildlife before there's nothing left.

Billions wasted on all sorts of things we don't need. The difference between capitalism and communism: In Communism They start with billions and end with nothing. Here, despite the government's best efforts to steal our money, we start with billions and grow from there... Different strokes for different folks

Would that we would pay more attention to our own earth than we do to the deepest reaches of outer space, gw. We'd be much better off, methinks!

I'd like to pay more attention. But with inflation 'attention' costs so much these days. :) gw

Instead of spending money on outerspace researches to make other planets livable , why can't we invest money on improving the planet we live in. Great thoughts, Gershon!

I often wonder would we be better off spending money on this planet never mind looking for ET, No alien in his right mind would hang around with all the wars and conflicts going on here. Tom
