Sign of the Times

S ee this new time we are in - this strange sedentary society, sitting
I n rooms, on subway trains, and nearly everywhere with some device in hand.
G one are the days of friendly oral chatter.
N owadays folks chat to friends across the room from them while. . .

O n their phone, they send their friend a text as they continue
F iddling around with phones so great their names begin with Smart.

T humbs have become the most exercised appendage.
H ow can people, everywhere it seems,
E ven survive without technology's advancements?

T heir family meals also find them often on their cell phones.
I nformation rules the day, but what of conversation with with their parents?
M odern man has come so far that
E mptiness threatens to entomb the souls of those
S tuck in the time of the world's most accelerating "progress."

Why is it, only some past a certain age, can see all of this? i wonder.. your poem is a mission statement Andrea, needs to be read..

Excellent commentary on our techno-governed age, Andrea. It breaks my heart to see kids communicating but not talking. Good luck in the contest. Viv x

Oh so true cannot go anywhere without those darn things in your face. No one wants to talk anymore or look at one another but at these little hand held gadgets. Not a fan for sure. love phyl

You picked an apt theme to describe the signs of the times..technology is changing human behavior at a very fast speed..just as you describe..best for a win, Andrea.

I saw the contest was ready to close and had to whip this up super fast. WIsh I had more time to make it better, but anyway, the message is what I want it to be! I get so sick of seeing my students learning English but just doing their FB in classes(in their own language too, no doubt. What is the point of learning English?)
