Notes About The Poem

A Haikoum Is a series of Haikus sequenced like a Pantoum.

Siesta Key-Haikoum

windswept clumps of grass
beach scattered with broken shells~
gulls lift on currents

sandpipers feed along
beach scattered with broken shells~
tiny legs twinkle

shorebirds feeding on
the tides endless offerings~
tiny legs twinkling

each day it changes
the tides endless offerings~
waves wash shifting sand

changing on each day
seabirds gather on sandbars~
waves wash shifting sand

ocean reflects sky
on sandbars seabirds gather ~
sleeping in warm sun

ocean reflects sky
people under umbrellas~
sleeping in warm sun

windswept clumps of grass
people under umbrellas~
gulls lift on currents

Hi Suzanne. I just read your note on my post; still have to check out Soupmail, but from this example I have already gathered an idea of what's required in this interesting form. You have done a great job; hope I can emulate you :) Enjoy the week ahead // paul

Beach scenes tumble down one on another ! Sand pipers and gulls feeding on the tides' endless offerings ! An eye catching and lively image. Love this string of haikus beaded in the form of a pantoum. Well done Suzanne.

a beautiful wandering along the shore....not one for any structure more so one who consumes the soul....we share this numen (the idea of magical power residing in an object)....my poem about winter beaches...as with meadows, forests, gardens....created so we could meander in beauty....where our neuropathways birth light

So happy you liked this form, Charlie: It would be fun to see your take on it. I found that describing the beach suited the form because the beach scenery has the same action going on all the time but with different variations. I think it might be a good form to use for changing seasons, too. Hope you had a very happy Christmas Day. SuZ

Extremely cleverly written Suzanne. You made the picture so clear, I could hear the gulls squawking, and the gurgle of the frothy waves reaching out to cover the shore, and feel the sand being blown around my feet. Excellent writing, It goes on my favourite list without hesitation
