Shot-Dead: For Word Morth Contest

Shot Dead

Shot where I stood, though the slug missed my ticker
My horse, newly shod, sent for cop or for vicar
I’ve made my last stand in this old grain shed
He’ll steal no more seed with that hole in his head

The drought that has led to his treacherous deed
Has dried up the field and the creek and its reed
May my last act on my headstone be read
Long into the future... long after I’m dead

Thanks Jesse. I thought that poem might have been the end of my writer’s block... alas, not so.
