Shop On the Street

There's a shop on the street
that sells foetid meat
There's a boy on the corner
His corpse competes with the odour
There's dust covering mankind
the cruel and the kind
Ochre villages and towns
where death rains down
It's gender specific
noisy horrific
I seen it on telly
I ate ice cream and jelly
It's far away from me
But my heart is breaking...

Media is ubiquitous these days... we are shown disasters almost as soon as the occur and they become like movies of the week... How can we react to these horrors as they unfold before us? I don't now. Keeping human in our own backyards is a start I guess... A powerful piece well done. BRAVO Declan. Best wishes, Keith

Some one close to me has been involved in Syria recently. When I heard about their reality and then related this to others I realised they had not idea what reality was...I had to write this short and dirty poem

thank you... I never get much feedback so delighted to get any comment. Poetry is something new for me. I spend a lot of time star gazing (Astronomy), love science don't ya know. I've heard it said that science strives to make the complex simple while poetry tends to do the opposite?

Thanks for the welcome. To be honest I'm new to poetry (couple of months) the first poem I put on the site I wrote a couple of days earlier in an Irish cafe
