Shipwrecked

Crashing waves breaking over me -
                            surging, tidal tears that capsize.
Drowning love, sinking in black sea,
                            fragmented heart cuts deepest ties.

Stormy, onyx skies - darken sea
                            crashing waves breaking over me.
Ship with no captain at the helm,
Alone am I - gone from my realm.

Floundering and lost out to sea,
Oh, Lodestar! Where are you to guide?
                           Crashing waves breaking over me.
Driftwood - broken dreams at my side.

Shipwrecked, adrift, my heart and I -
Castaway now so shall I be.
Dwell beneath ocean’s torrid sky -
                           Crashing waves breaking over me.

Poets that we are, recognise metaphors acutely; shipwrecks, the sea, abandonment, desert island life - all the emotions of lostness painted into a vivid reality. You do a great job here and I can feel raw emotion. May the sunshine warm you and the island storms pass you by, Christina. Sam :)

I absolutely love this, Christina. Such a beautiful metaphor for a broken heart, or at least that's how I interpreted it. The terminology utilized in this poem is perfect. I especially love the 'Lodestar' reference. It's very creative, intellectual, and beautiful. This is definitely one of most favorite poems!

A well told sorrowful tale. We must realise that every story does not have a happy ending. A lament of a castaway told brilliantly dear friend.

Christina, can I say you make an impression in my heart. The expression here is painful, and I hope you can take pleasure that your words and expression are beautiful and a pleasure to read and examine. So, thank you for the expression of deep feeling. It's strong and will resonate with me. I will be thinking about it whenever I see the ocean or video of waves!

Dear Christina, How did I miss this poem when it was chosen for POTD!!! I love this beautiful poetic form - the repetition of lines like "Crashing waves breaking over me" creates so much impact on the tragic theme! Your images and metaphors are rich and exude depth. The picture of a broken soul who is "shipwrecked" has been portrayed with great flow of words! Although belated, sending this gem to my faves. Love and Hugs ~ Mala

Dear Christina, gifted poetess, your potent pen spills passionate verse that exudes the physical and emotional pain experienced when one is " Floundering and lost out to sea". Such deep imagery and rich metaphors "fragmented heart cuts deepest ties" and "Driftwood - broken dreams at my side" portray the scene of a broken spirit who's helpless in tragic circumstance. The repetition of "Crashing waves breaking over me" is both poignant and impactful in its sense of turmoil! Belated congrats for well-deserved POTD honors with this exquisite piece. Your golden pen shines with your poetic brilliance! Warmest wishes, my sweet and inspiring friend.. ~Susan

Wow! and we have all been there! so compelling this poem, compelling in its wordery, and compelling in its emotion. I enjoyed the repetitive waves crashing which really emphasised the chaos and the helplessness against it. Just saw your comment and thought i would take a look at your poetry, i am very glad i did. xx
