Shiny Red Shoes
She was so excited and happy
It was her 5th birthday today
She had a lovely fun party
Lots of goodies came her way
She loved all her presents
But if she had to choose
Her favourite above all
Were her shiny red shoes
She wore her shiny red shoes daily
Even tried to wear them to bed
She loved to dance in them
Twirling and tapping just watching the shiny red
Playing in the front garden in her shiny red shoes
While mum sat having a cuppa watching on
Mum went inside to get the now awake baby
Returning minutes later and her daughter was gone
The police scoured the woodlands
Which was moist from the morning dew
A policeman yelled ‘ l found something’
There in the dirt ….lay a little shiny red shoe
Her parents were beside themselves
Barely able to breathe
Mum consumed with blame and guilt
For those minutes she did leave
Police lights flashed outside the kitchen window
Her parents were frozen with fear
Petrified and reluctant to open the front door
As to what they were about to hear
In the doorway stood two detectives and a policewoman
Her parents feared what was about to ensue
Asleep in the arms of the policewoman
Was a little girl wearing one shiny red shoe!
