She'D Lost Her Tomorrow
Each day she sat
upon her nest
lovingly nurturing
her unborn chicks
in burning sunshine
she gasped for air
her dedication
beyond compare
Yesterday
a gale ~ a gust
just took her nest
blew it away
Her eggs ~ Her chicks
were now all gone
and looking on
all I could hear
was total panic
borne in her cries
as slowly
tears welled in my eyes
This beautiful mother
had lost her eggs
in the blink of an eye
unborn now gone
and she’s left wondering
Why…
Head held low
surveying the scene
her pitiful cries
of what might have been
For in her grief
beyond belief
I witnessed
her sorrow
she’d lost her tomorrow
My tears now flowed
at Natures brutality
sadly beginning to face reality
Sweet black backed gull
I pray one day
you may
be blessed in time
~
For I feel your loss
so deeply
as if your loss
‘twere mine...
