She Waits

"SHE WAITS" The face in the mirror is wrinkled and old, yet it reflects youth and beauty and stories untold. Her grey hair so thin, the lashes so light, the body so frail, her chin held so slight.......... Her eyes shine with hope...... maybe today. She reflects on her life.... her past, was it just yesterday? Her children, her home, her family.... all gone now... Memories are her world now... she holds on tight. She remembers, and she smiles. She waits.....she hopes. Her body weak..... her heart aches her mind can't forget, and she whispers. "WHERE ARE MY CHILDREN THAT I LOVE SO, DON'T THEY REMEMBER ME, DON'T THEY KNOW? THEY PUT ME IN HERE BECAUSE I AM OLD, I DON'T UNDERSTAND, BUT SO I'VE BEEN TOLD." She waits by the window... and day becomes night. Alone in her room, her smile masks the pain. She wheels to her bedside, and her eyes fill with tears, she weeps..... and in the dim light.....her smile fades SHE WAITS. NO ONE SEES, NO ONE KNOWS, NO ONE HEARS.

This poem tugs at my heart strings! If only people would and could visit people like her. Too bad so many can’t now because of Covid!
