She Threatens Demons

She threatens demons
   with her imposing chocolate eyes
   puffy rose lips
   a dance of her hand
She commands shadows to turn to pearl
her honey hair long and rich
   flecks of light
Tames imaginations
   dwelling in the dark
She smothers them in her pillow
She dreams of crayons and ice cream
   She smiles and monsters melt
Guardians are linked around her bed

Shh...
Do not wake her lest she see
what we know
   and become afraid

This is so sweet Barbara. You have painted a lovely picture of sleeping innocence yet with your last stanza cleverly conveyed the awareness of life’s reality in the adult world.I especially liked what she dreams of.Thank you,I found it very enjoyable and touching to read.
