She Held My Heart Poetic expression by JC Hawkens On a Crisp Autumn day I met an Angel of such gentle Grace The warmth of her smile The soothing of her voice The melting of my heart And within that faithful day She listened to my sad story And she Judged me not She replied not in sympathy But in truth she offered Confessed her own troubles and doubts She showed me that I was not alone Mended my soul Healed my splintered Heart Shared a careful whisper A soft touch It is but only once in a thousand years That one happens upon an Angel And knows with a single smile That this woman holds my Heart If only I had the Courage to tell Her!!

JC, this is a wistful and beautiful first entry for you here at Poetry Soup. I have been too shy in the past to express my feelings in the moment, but have learned from my regrets to be more open and vulnerable and 'in the moment'. This poem touched my heart and is going into my faves to be enjoyed again and again. Blessings ~ John

Thank you, I believe when I first posted this, I wrote at the top of the poem that it was a Poetic Expression because I didn't know if it was poetry at the time. Sandra Adams gave me a lot of encouragement. Writing Poetry was a total departure from anything I had ever done before. Your words are an encouragement to me. Bless you, my friend,

I am so glad you decided to write this as we need to spread the word that romance is still alive and one person's failure can spur another on and the prize is as near as one gets to heaven in this life for those who reach out and see themselves as worthy of it. Hope you keep safe at this time and have many more gems to share with us. Best regards David in NZ

That definitely was a case of love at first sight, JC. Probably it applied to you and to her...two angels who shared a lot, except their love. Regards // paul

There was love between us, but for reasons, not of the heart, I chose a different path. But I feel that things happen for a reason. As I fondly look back, I now realize that I should listen to my heart more. And to this I found Poetry and I am letting my heart sing. Thank you Paul, for your beautiful words my friend. Stay safe, and I hope all is well. JC Hawkens

A truely timeless piece which would pass muster in centuries past and future. Hope you are finding soup to your liking as it will be staple if lockdown continues for a while. Keep posting new recipes. Don't fancy soy soup though. Our garden is overflowing with silver beet and spring onion and pumpkins coming along nicely. Hope you are not locked down in claustrophobic space. Best regards David in NZ

I did 35 years later. Now that I think back. I penned a poem titled Insomnia's Dream 35 years ago. After I had met her. I didn't write anything else till recently. We met again at a friend's wedding. I let her know how I felt all those years ago.(She was love at first sight.) We had lost touch and slowly we are reconnecting. It would appear she is also my muse. Thank you for the comment.
