Notes About The Poem

She Has a Thing for Cats

My neighbor lady, Treena, has a 'thing' for cats
Says they keep her home free of mice and rats
She pets their heads and their butts, she pats
when some of the snippy felines get into spats

She shares her loveseat with all her furry friends
On tasty cat food, a huge amount she spends
Three smelly kitty litter boxes often offends
the noses of her suitors, her visiting boyfriends

Treena took some offense at a certain politician
who has dissed cat ladies in his own admission
She won't vote for him in vice president position
and signed it "Cat Ladies Against Vance' petition

So, there she sits with blue clogs upon her feet
Content with saying, "My life feels so complete."
When the cats all meow, begging her for a treat
She gives them a pinch of catnip instead of meat

Her home is filled with lots of scratching posts
and there's not one cat that she loves the most
If they could speak of Treena, they would boast,
about their kind human and drink to her a toast

Duke Beaufort March 8, 2025 at 7:52 PM Lin, this is very clever. I also like how you weave a political statement into it. There's a lot to explore regarding childless cat ladies. Some politicians are panicked that a reduction in population would tank our economy. I love cats but i dont really have any pets: and i was nevr a pet person but recently i keep wanting to get a cat. My sister is the opposite and she had many cats so did my son Thanks for the smiles! I enjoyed reading this fun poem. I didnt know vance hated cats. I watched one of his videos long time ago and felt deeply for all that he endured and challenges he fought. Was sad. Michael Tor March 5, 2025 at 10:40 PM This made me smile Lin. I enjoyed your humor. My wife Judy loves cats and so do I. Cats make your life so much better and they are part of the family. So sweet they are. Judy's cat Saranac lived 15 years and Judy went through a sad period when Saranac crossed the Rainbow Bridge. Then we adopted Rusty, who she loves. My husband can barely tolerate our two, and I got stuck with two that are not very affectionate. I sure wish they enjoyed more hanging right next to me like a few cats in my past did. My cat was a rescues. I got her when she was 9. She was very sick. She had 3 health problems. I had no choice I had to put her down. Lin, it broke my heart. i miss her.
