Shattered Mirrors, Shattered Past

i think of you often... this cheval glass titled like downcast eyes retracts memories of reflective past i see you there this tiny frame surfeit on pain can't see me beyond you gaunt on love starved of touch i reach for you beyond the shards of shattered glass where you fall again in death yet in each piece i fall with you a shadow in your reflection longing to be seen without you as the years fade by yet i only see you in the image behind shattered glass

Thank you my friend...i look like my mother, she passed away around the age i am now, and as i age, everyone calls me by her name or confuses our photos...it's hard dealing with a loss when the person is before your eyes daily ...hugs

Hi Sandy, I really loved reading this poem - 'yet I only see you in the image behind shattered glass' - a deep write - yes it certainly is difficult to forget someone's death when their image is always there - a sad but awesome write - so well penned. Hugs, Jennifer.

Thank you Jenny, my mom passed at 55, she always said i looked like my dad's side, maybe when i was young, all i know is now, i look like her...i hear it all the time, from her friends, my friends, family, some from italy actually call me by her name because they say that it's like looking at her... :) hugs

Your imagery is exquisite in every way: i reach for you beyond the shards of shattered glass where you fall again in death yet in each piece i fall with you. Splendidly done, Sandy.

Beautiful sadness, ditto to Tom's comment, loss is always loss, always present, we may distract ourselves with day to day concerns, but it all goes back to loss, those not with us to enjoy simple mundane things as they used to, loved this write!

thank you John...it doesn't help that the older i get the more i look like her, when i share her picture people always think it's me and even her best friend has had to ask a few times. so i guess whenever i look in a mirror, i see her staring back, she is forever 55 (which is why i used that number in my other poem... :) hugs, your kindness always touches me!

Deeply felt my friend. There is a longing in this that is reflected in the loss you have so sorrowfully expressed in this sad and heart touching poem. Simply beautiful
