Shampoo and Beer

It has been so many years You left without a word I cried, I begged but you didn’t care Many nights I reached for you You weren’t there I sit alone in a darkened room The windows closed The drapes drawn A soft amber light glows in the corner But it doesn’t cast shadows The scent of shampoo and beer fills my senses I remember your hair The memory burnt in my mind decades ago Brown and long It was your scent Shampoo and beer It makes me think Makes me remember Our fist kiss The summers in the sun The times we made love The leaves below us The stars above Our talks about having children Our lives together How can the thought of you bring those memories back? You left so long ago All I have left are my dreams And the scent that I know The scent that I love Shampoo and beer

Robert, isn't it amazing how a scent can recall a person or event from the past. My late husband wore Aramis, and I think of him whenever I smell the scent. This is beautiful! And, yes, you caught my intentions in "Travel Agent." Thank you, Carolyn

Intriguing title! I expected some humour, but this is far from humourous. A wistful and poignant piece with splendid phrasing and atmosphere. Well done Robert! Best wishes, Keith
