Shadows Through the Pines

silence reigns
in the forest
snowfall
blankets tree limbs
all is calm and hushed
no chirping
of birds
nor wolf howls
moonlight
casts shadows
through the pines
north winds softly hum
a soothing lullaby
stars
gleam from high above
