Shadows of Wisdom

Listen to poem:
Written: February 04, 2025 for contest Sponsored by: Miranda Hawley ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Despite its vastness, wisdom may appease. Your darkest fears that keep you up at night, Such as wicker crypts where hues limit light, More important is your mellow serene breeze. Shun worrying through what those may say in jest, Might suffer or speak in your short-lived fame. Since prestige is only a false claim, While true self-worth lies within your chest. Reading books till one's eyes begin to dim, Yet, the knowledge to grasp appears from eyes. Each move you make is consistently wise, When faced with life's ever-shifting whim. Past anguished serves as an anchor reminder. Of who we are, and visions we seek to find.

SP, I do like that prestige is only a false claim. If more people understood how short life is and what our vision should focus on, the planet and our society would function much much better. Self worth can come to us....and I suspect you have it down pat! Smiles! BTW, I see you mentioned the visions we seek to find. I'm starting to come to the conclusion that they are not all that hidden or difficult to uncover. It's all in how we decide to think. I do believe reading books is a real pleasure!

Great message share here by you Lasaad. It is true what you say about each other finding ourselves within ourselves and knowing and feeling our self confidence. Thank for sharing my friend...

Only within ourselves, do we find our self worth - we do grasp with our eyes, but what we achieve moves within a wise course of 'life's ever-shifting whim' .... is an 'anchor reminder of who we are and visions we seek to find'. A Great philosopher you are dear friend and a wise one also. Hugs and blessings, Jennifer.

Dear Dr. Sotto, is it my imagination or do I detect a little dualistic Gnosticism here? The blending of "Your darkest fears that keep you up at night," with "Each move you make is consistently wise, When faced with life's ever-shifting whim." Even if I'm off base here, the imagery and wisdom you convey is wholly creative, deep, sublime and uplifting. Kudos, Terrell

I love the first stanza so much. The analogy of wisdom to wicker flame that appeases our fears is quite apt. But the flame cannot be blazed up until there is breeze. Through wisdom, one cannot gain everything until we look within and dig out what is buried in our chest. From past, we learn many lessons though it may be anguishing. Never overthink, but learn what they teach. A wonderful sonnet dear Lasaad.

Ah another excellent poem that flows with such profound wisdom dr sotto, I absolutely love the way youv delivered a message for all your readers, and what resonates with me the most is “ Shun worrying through what those may say in jest, Might suffer or speak in your short-lived fame. Since prestige is only a false claim,” just beautiful and well articulated lines as always. And i agree with your last two lines , past anguishes are reminders, and we need to learn to not overthink but just embrace. Pleasure reading your poem! Sending you light always
