Shadows
I felt the shadows falling in the places
We used to be
Upon our mutual company,
Upon the things we used to see.
I felt the Gods foreclosing on the times
That we once had,
On the good and on the bad,
On the laughter and the sad.
I felt the slaughter thudding in my heart
And as it died,
It slowly drowned to death inside,
Within a well of tears cried.
I felt the painful ending in the prison
Of my head,
In the words that we both said,
In the echoes of the dead.
I felt the darkest feelings rising
From the depths of us,
From a cruel nucleus,
Rendered cold and cavernous.
I felt my own despairing mirrored
In your vocal chords,
To the dread, unknown accords
Of the things we turn towards.
I felt the shadows falling on the best thing
I have known,
Leaving me, my flesh and bone,
Desolated…and alone.
