Notes About The Poem

Written for contest April 1 2026 inspired by Pablo Picasso art sponsor of contest Robert

Shades of Green

Big eyes that seek
A nose that knows
Better not speak
Better to pose

Shades of green
On dainty nails
Lips maybe pink
With muffled wails

1936 trying times
Women so unique
Guard their minds
In times bleed

Art of life
Hidden behind eyes
United by spies
Regimes that die

I'm not familiar with the painting, is 'Shades of Green' the paintings title? I'll look it up. Your words gave feel that became seen by my eyes and grew a desire in me to know what inspired this lovely, generous poem. Using brevity you give the reader a lot. I will google SHADES OF GREEN.

The painting is one of several called Dora Maar with Green Fingernails. The poetry contest has the same Dora Maar name. I chose to title my poem differently. Thanks for the interest and sorry for the confusion sweet friend!

Karen, you've seriously captured an interesting art piece & interacting on emotional ties in distant past & best of all descriptive of true events. That's some painting, isn't it? I may try ekrephis. T.C. KJ~

I found the different paintings interesting even if the model who is a photographer and artist in her own right didn’t like Picasso’s portrayal of her. Your talent is greater than mine I humbly say with no self malice so you’d do fantastic in this contest Anaya. Thanks for your support!
