Serene

You won’t be prepared It’s subtleness is striking Like quietly rolling thunder Before a flash of lightning You know it might be coming But still do not expect it When the rain touches your soul You’re completely unprotected It’s the end of a relationship The closing of a door The death of who you were A life you won’t know anymore It’s the start of something new The shedding of a skin The fear of being exposed Before you know where to begin Get ready for confusion Discomfort is the norm You’ll need to lean on faith To withstand this storm You wonder how it happened But upon further reflection Realize it’s part of life And accept this new direction The move from here to there Is not an easy shift You’ll often just feel stuck Before you move an inch But hope is what you learn When you’re out of the between Knowing things will settle And you’ll find a new serene
