September

Leaves that flutter in the wind
begin to turn from green to red
shining beautifully in the sun

the breeze carries with it the caresses of ending summer
still warm enough to sit outside in the early evening
but cool enough to need a sweater

I love September and the memories of my youthful days
of going back to school
with a new pair of shoes or a new box of coloured pencils
and my lunchbox full of goodies from mom-

September
forever comes but once a year
heralding the autumn voices that whisper softly.
