Sentinel
Welcome to my section; I’m the guardian of the trail;
Stick with me you’ll be alright; we’ll camp and tell some tales.
I haven’t seen the master; since many years now past;
But I’ve been faithful all this time; doing as he asked.
I’m sorry I can’t help you; I’ve never seen the end;
But I know this part so well; you’re safe with me my friend.
I know I’m getting old; but I see well in the dark;
And nothing will get next to you; or I’ll scare it with my bark.
When you get to where you’re going; and everyone has come;
Ask him if he’ll come for me; when my job is done.
I’ve seen a lot of ugliness; but I’ve made a lot of friends;
Excuse me for my open wounds; I’m sure that they will mend.
I saw a nasty creature; not so long ago;
We screamed and tussled all day long; it cut me don’t you know.
I’ve got a lot of battle scares; it scares you I might guess;
Don’t you worry weary travelers; I’m here to help you rest.
The master is so wonderful; I’ve pledged my life to him;
Tell him I’m continuing; until he comes again.
In the morning when you wake up; I’ll take you to the lake;
You can drink and wash, refresh yourself; and dissolve your past mistakes.
I envy you your journey; I long for paradise;
But helping you to travel on; makes me feel real nice.
Mention to the keeper; not to lock the gate;
Tell him I’ve been faithful; and ask him if he’ll wait.
