Self Inflicted

Tongue lashings are bitter
  they hurt and injure
Gnawing at both the heart
  of victim and abuser
With each hostile strike
  both hearts bruise and deaden
Hostility a most deadly poison
  injected as cheeks redden

No word of a lie striking a chord
You live by the sword you die by the sword

So RIGHT you are. Tongue is the hardest sword to hit. Yet, every action has an equal n opposite reaction.

The tongue was cut out in ancient Greek and Roman history (slaves were often punished by the, tongue, an ear or a eye been removed) an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth says the Old Testament - you live by the sword you die by the sword! The tongue can lash bitterly, and something said, can never be taken back! Enjoyed your so true write Line. Hugs, Jennifer.

Sometimes we long for those good old days... till we remember that we might have come up short ourselves especially before we became as wise as we are now. LOL

Line, I wonder at the lashing in your Rhyme word choice. Somehow, your compassion shows through to tender the sword's voice. That is simply amazing to me. Well done. -Richard

Really cool Line and so true. Words are like weapons when used against another but hurt just as bad when echoed back.
