Seems Like Yesterday - Mystic

It seems like yesterday when she wrote a letter to me.
The clock was ticking into the new millennium,
And every word was a reflection of her heart—
She embraced me from afar.

It seems like yesterday when we were meant to meet.
Resentment was still brewing,
Anger coursing through seething veins,
The fallen Iroko tree was still the song of those it had sheltered,
And time had yet to be the elixir for their sorrow.

It seems like yesterday when we first met.
She was overjoyed to see me, and so was I.
She shared stories from years gone by,
Her smile was occasionally shadowed by a blankness as she recounted each episode.
I imagined how she managed to wear so many different shoes,
And I understood why she was known as an unyielding rope.

It seems like yesterday when she journeyed through the meadow of the strange,
Slowed down by unseen forces—
A monster that cocooned her in gloom,
Shielding her from the sunlight of togetherness.

It seems like yesterday when she eased into the night,
Taking her last breath at the start of her favourite season.
Indeed, every deadness heralds a new beginning,
And every departure leaves an imprint.
