the kids shovel sand
with their hands, and birds
flutter freely in the park before
disappearing into the sky.
the Mercedes is
on the street
within sight of the park bench,
and the kids move sand and
float down slides. Down the
street is my work building, and
further down the
street lies the apartment,
both of which
secure me.
Birds stop on the street
for a moment,
eat a few crumbs
and fly away.

“If I had known
then what
I know now…”
