Searching For Bridges
I dreamed I saw an eagle covered in coal ash slurry
Stripped of flight, with a dark eye of worry,
He searched for bridges in a sea of walls.
I dreamed I was walking on ten foot poles,
Suspended over a sludge of heavy metals,
Searching for bridges in a sea of walls.
I dreamed of the days when eagles migrated
When frozen rivers thawed to the berry of the black haw.
I dreamed I was searching for bridges across a slurry sea,
Unconscious in gas clouds of legal debris.
I'm walled in suspended animation of a walled nation,
Searching for a bridge to another side.
I dreamed I walked hand in hand in a vibrant land.
I dreamed I saw an eagle perched with a watchful eye.
I dreamed he lead us away from this swamp of decay,
Across a bridge
With the power of courage.
I dreamed this eagle in flight
Led us with watchful sight
Across a bridge of clear water
Where he dipped his wing
In the promise of a new spring.
