Notes About The Poem

"The earth does not judge what the sea takes.
Some mornings the sky simply opens and swallows."

- Poet

==========

Seagulls

Save the earth. Obliterate your world.
Begin by ending.
Let the sky-ceiling buckle and split.

You are the first to go.
Scrape the crusted-hard scabs from your skin.
Shred the nerves where the winter enters.

For the earth—which needs no saving—
your worldly heart must stop.

Your flesh feeds the gulls.
White wings. Red beaks.
Stripped clean.

(A child on the pier lowers her hand,
the splintered stick held mid-air.)

The gulls do not look up.
They finish what they started
and leave the bones to the tide.

Wow! The imagery in your writing is amazing! Great job! Did you see the contest for writing horror? I bet you’d do well if you wanted to do it! Thanks for stopping by my page! Hugs Daniel.

Daniel, Seagulls, though a beautiful bird can be as ruthless and as beautiful as the sea. Nicely penned.

Amazing poem, Daniel. I feel a real connection to the ocean with this poem, and I love the ending.

Dear Daniel, there is a cycle to life that underpins your words and seagulls are an integral part of it. They can be clowns or a pack of scavengers. Seems we are always trying to interfere with the seasons and the natural ways of birds and every other part of nature's life. Being a steward of creation is a tough job and we often fail. But, we also have our successes. Thank you for sharing this poem. Sending you the warmth of blessings. Happy Valentine's Day, my friend.

Daniel, powerful picture & piece, never thought of seagulls as carrion vultures, nothing shall compare to the other opportunist monsters. Perhaps you are right, we try to protect the world against monsters, yet fail in every passageway, yet we're born into sin. We [the lucky ones] here today with a voice, speak up of what is upcoming. Most of all making choices, ah, choosing with conviction we hope! Sartre's existentialism--humans are condemned to make choices, in an absurd world with no rules. Not choosing had consequences, so it's still a choice. Choose with conviction and live your life. Warm wishes

Hey read my latest one Daniel..It has another type of jaggedness to it.' Elementally wise, its sort of.? Hmm? Oh yes .! Juxta-poetic to this i feel...Apart from the gulls not being judgemental that is .' The opening of The sky is a strong line btw, gets the Mind in gear.)

Sometimes we look for answers, and run past the simple one, do no harm, do not support genocide and the seagulls will be just fine! Nice poem!
