Notes About The Poem

Many former ESL students from the Soviet Union have expressed their astonishment at the casual teaching posture/style ---and backgrounds---of some ESL teachers in America...

Schism

The teacher's feet flew up on the desk,
Striking the class as rather grotesque:
       It caused quite a schism,
       As she'd just escaped prison!
Was this a school-room or house of burlesque?

I am surprised and almost disappointed that your teacher is male... I mean go for the gusto! Charming limerick, Gershon.

Another re-reading. You know what? You're definitely right. That house of burlesque just don't work with a male. I was thinking---there's that euphemism again---of the old male comics in burlesque. But that doesn't fly. So, I'm changing it right now. Thanks a million!!!

Hmmm. I see your point here, Line...Re-reading this, a female teacher would really super-charge this limerick, except that I think---euphemism there---that the prison escape line sinks that idea....Maybe I'm wrong. I dunno. Thanks for the observation; it's certainly food for thought and then some! :) Gershon
