Scent To Remind Me

“SCENT TO REMIND ME”

Favourite fragrances of nature, newness and food
that gently trigger a memory response
familiar warm fuzzy feeling of contentment and happiness
link between present day senses and my sub-conscious past

 scent to remind me

 NATURE…

opening my bedroom window at dawn
refreshing smell of a misty morn
distinct scent of a sea breeze greets me
awakening of the senses after yesterdays humidity
promising newness of day--awareness of fragrant oceans
coastlines -- calming tides- motions of waves
the flow and ebb of life

A scent of freshly cut grass- reminder of my childhood weekends
fathers weekend ritual-- mowing the lawn
heralding the end of another school week
two days of spontaneous fun and family outings

scent to remind me

NEWNESS---

of a life- the distinct fragrance of a new born baby
soft muskiness of smooth unblemished skin
baby soap- plastic bath tubs--slippery wriggling bodies
wide and innocent eyes focused… complete love and trust
hooded towels unwrapped revealing tiny heads- soft downy hair
innocence- baby son or daughter

scent to remind me

FOOD---

cold and rainy winter’s day-- comforting aroma of homemade soup
permeating through the house , slowly simmering on the stove
a cup of health and consolation
melting away the chilly greyness -- a winters ambience

shopping malls--coffee smells
tempting and delicious in passing
never quite fulfilling promises of their rich aroma’s

roasted chicken - done in traditional family way
lemon…a hint of garlic, sizzling skin to a crispy brown
memories--Sunday roasts-- grandparents home
gatherings of diverse characters- sharing and serving
searching common genetic denominators amidst social chaos

scent to remind me

Awww, Kim. You have the ability to transport your reader wherever you may. You've managed to capture all my favorite scents with eloquence. May I add freshly baked homemade bread? Nice one, homegirl. You're a very talented poetess. :)
