Scent To Remind Me

“SCENT TO REMIND ME” Favourite fragrances of nature, newness and food that gently trigger a memory response familiar warm fuzzy feeling of contentment and happiness link between present day senses and my sub-conscious past scent to remind me NATURE… opening my bedroom window at dawn refreshing smell of a misty morn distinct scent of a sea breeze greets me awakening of the senses after yesterdays humidity promising newness of day--awareness of fragrant oceans coastlines -- calming tides- motions of waves the flow and ebb of life A scent of freshly cut grass- reminder of my childhood weekends fathers weekend ritual-- mowing the lawn heralding the end of another school week two days of spontaneous fun and family outings scent to remind me NEWNESS--- of a life- the distinct fragrance of a new born baby soft muskiness of smooth unblemished skin baby soap- plastic bath tubs--slippery wriggling bodies wide and innocent eyes focused… complete love and trust hooded towels unwrapped revealing tiny heads- soft downy hair innocence- baby son or daughter scent to remind me FOOD--- cold and rainy winter’s day-- comforting aroma of homemade soup permeating through the house , slowly simmering on the stove a cup of health and consolation melting away the chilly greyness -- a winters ambience shopping malls--coffee smells tempting and delicious in passing never quite fulfilling promises of their rich aroma’s roasted chicken - done in traditional family way lemon…a hint of garlic, sizzling skin to a crispy brown memories--Sunday roasts-- grandparents home gatherings of diverse characters- sharing and serving searching common genetic denominators amidst social chaos scent to remind me Copyright© April 2013 Kim van Breda

smell brings on a memory, be it good or bad or awful....like the Gidgee tree stink after rain....very long lasting timber better than iron bark the popular one here. 3 holes was a true story.....all of it

Awww, Kim. You have the ability to transport your reader wherever you may. You've managed to capture all my favorite scents with eloquence. May I add freshly baked homemade bread? Nice one, homegirl. You're a very talented poetess. :)
