Scent

he's gone and the house is still
the dog watches out
waiting
knowing now he will return
but return is irratic
I never make his bed
I leave the door shut and peek in to
take in the scent of him
I have to close my eyes.

This poems shares exactly how I felt when my last son, my baby, became a man and went out on his own. The scent and the memory will remain, But I do miss him. And as you said, He'll come back occasionally. Congratulations on having your poem featured this week. Keep writing, Love and Hugs, Dane
