Scary Night In Maine (True Story)
It was 1974,
And I had no idea
What I was in for...
I borrowed my new wife's
Father's car...
Drove forever to get
To Maine,
After 16 hours driving straight,
I was very close to insane...
Got there at twilight..
Expecting a hotel bright...
Far from that,
A brooding house on a cliff,
Like "Legend of HellHouse"
My courage got stiff...
Old rambling victorian
In the middle of nowhere,
No neighbors for miles,
Did it cause them a scare?
We'd already paid for it,
In the days of Postal Mail,
And I was so tired,
A search for another place
Would surely fail...
We were shown our room,
By the owner,
Down corridors of gloom,
I felt I had stepped into
A Hollywood horror flick,
It got dark, thunder and rain now,
I was gettin' sort'a sick
There it was;
A four poster bed,
Somber colors all about,
Yet in spite of being tired,
I feared I'd soon be dead...
I opened a drawer,
There were clothes inside,
Flashes of lightning
I felt I'd like to hide...
Well, my wife, she fell asleep,
Not me, I opened a book,
One I had brought at the last moment,
I had hardly time to look...
It was Steven King's
"Salem's Lot"
I knew not who he was,
Of vampires in Maine it dealt with
My nerve started in fear,
To buzz....
I think that night lasted a year,
Or maybe two or three,
I prayed to make it to dawn,
With the light I prayed to see.
The scene was picture perfect,
For Dracula and his lot,
I couldn't wait to go home though,
Of Maine, I surely cared not!!
