Savor Moments
The garden that you wander child
was mine when I had faith in earth.
I sowed the seeds, let them grow wild
but never watched a blossom's birth.
I wrung the nectar from each whorl
got drunk on laughter and on pain
but never once appriciated curls
of leaves upturned on vines to praise the rain.
My vines are crawling beauty-burdened, bent
with longing for the grapes that never grew
my tendernesses have been spent
in search of what I never knew.
And now....
I can't extract myself from past
or pause to relish moments gone
I can not capture time that fled too fast
while rushing drunk from dawn to dawn.
Reflections rage in midnight wars
upon the plains between "I Was" and "Am"
and sickle moons dissolve before
the altars of "I Could" and "Can't".
While you can still appriciate
the taste of sweetness on your tongue
my buds are bitter and irate
for flavors missed when I was young...
So sip the nectar, taste the wine,
know the depths of high and low
but don't neglect the wand'ring vines
you'll need to grow your future soul.
