Saved a Soul Saving Myself

Saved a kind soul that was falling
with nothing to lose
just one abdomen, no sharp fangs
but huge.

And what's worse
the carton I called home,
my dark universe
upturned
just a moment ago..

Uprooted now, I went crawling
trying my best to live
running from certain death
knowin it may arrive
wondering why..
always such a test
to survive..

Was it all for naught
to flee such an attack
an octet onslaught
crawling this way and that.

The sky lifts now, feeling of flight
so frightened..
yet never so alive!

Found myself being gently placed
a tissue'd touch down
in a new universe.

'Never too late, never in vain'
thought a subtle, good natured arachnid mind
who found heart in a two-legged fangless one's reign
so divine.

"A life is never squandered"
another life pondered
in a good deed, a kindness repaid
perhaps it's just this
how kings and queens are made.

Thought provoking poem and the line, wondering why always such a test to survive?. Well written Richard. Every moment is precious. Simplicity at its best :)

Such is life, Richard! There is no smooth road guaranteed for any of us, and obstacles / temptations will always be there to test us. ~ Hope life is being kind to you, my friend. Regards // paul

Hi Paul, "No smooth roads guaranteed"..., I like that. Waxing philosophic minds & muscles, there's no harm in that. “You cannot do a kindness too soon, for you never know when it will be too late.” — Ralph Waldo Emerson

Anne-Lise, Thank you for your overwhelming feeling comment. Can we really know the meaning of alive without fearing its sudden end? Well wishes and roller-coaster rides in yours. -Richard

John, Yes.., something about it. Recognize a living thing, join in the fight even for a chance moment, something about it. -Richard

A very entertaining look at life my friend. Object lessons to be learned. Our struggles are never over... but we can mitigate the bumps along the way. Have a great day.
