Biosphere's tropical respiratory rainforests are on the verge of extinction, the exclusive reservoir of biodiversity, the Congo Basin is shrinking rapidly. Deforestation dehydrates the caliginous evergreen region, scorching heat changed the water cycle irreversibly. Locking in scanty rainfall and a prolonged arid season, tall towering canopies fell down~ecosystem lost balance entirely. Greenhouse emissions omitted approx. 288–247 gigatones of carbon absorption, erosion erased the terrestrial ecosystem's productivity consistently. Severe drought grips the gasping genome's biodiverse vegetation, barren scrublands of tropical basins turn deserts gradually. Sensitive ecozones's carbon emissions blocked, need urgent restoration. can't deny climate change ~global warming is a reality, ironically. Forest fire, sterilized soil, changed the unscathed contour of the fecund Amazon, felling forests no longer inhaling carbon secretion, sadly. Barren rainforests become oxygen-less oxymoron,  soil become sand~ overexploitation expunged bioms' 61% biological production virtually. Endangered species lost natural abodes~ man-animal conflict became more common, with 85 percent habitat loss~  unprotected biodiversity hotspots at peril considerably. Sustainable development fails sustenance without substantial preservation. tropic's photosynthesis jeopardized~gasping oxygen to revive bitterly. Nothing can replace reforestation for in-situ conservation, burned fossil fuels turned 5,300 hectares of Amazon rainforest into "wasteland" permanently. Home to 390 billion trees, the 10 million-year-old river basin witnessed cumulative colonization, decades of felling brought the jungle near a "tipping point" naturally. Borneo lowlands' polluted lungs malfunction of natural air filtration, deforestation indirectly leads to a low ozone layer in the stratosphere, obviously. Pollutants in tropospheric ozone crushed biota's biosynthesis microbial production, the resultant chain of diversified congenial relationships are lost irreparably. Carbon sink basins sank, climate change yields vicious circles of isoprene emissions, susceptible lungs on the mercy of axes~succeeding generations may not see rainforests certainly. Rainforests might "once" be past rhetoric; woefully, we have not learned afforestation,  realization can't restore~ prudent plantation is the optimum solution, evidently. © Silpika Kalita 21st March is the International Day of Forests. The most important challenging task is at the moment, "Afforestation," the burning need of the hour.

Restoration of forests crucial to mankind. The habitat of man and animals has been cruelly banished from their lives and all because of the greed of man. Climate change is frightening and what is more frightening is that access to water is shrinking. There will be war over water one day and not too far into The future. Water will become the new gold and diamonds. Hugs and blessings Jennifer

Hello, I was just wondering that if global warming is the hoax then why in Osaka $200 billion worth of assets threatened by sea-level in July of 2018, a devastating downpour in Western Japan forced 2 million people to evacuate their homes. The same principle applies to heatwaves unless we begin drastic emission reduction, Japan will just keep getting hotter. The temperature rose upto 41 degree Celsius. This is the best poem I have seen here without any gibberish. Stoop by my haiku.

Thanks for the detailed review, sad to know about Japan's situation. Only solution is plantation, you agreed, I hope so. For sure. Blessings

This is a hopeful poem. Reforestation should be possible. Isn't planting one of the things humans have perfected? .i am thinking that there must be ways to encourage evaporation and cloud formations to again cover earth. The down side is all this has to be accomplished by humans.

Dear silpika, what a most thoughtful and heartfelt poem this is, which depicts the consequences of human acts, being negligent to what would unfold through deforestation and more: sadly it has become a norm: but few souls like you care, if only more do: i had a poem too written on similar subject called “ streaks of poetry” this i must say is a powerful write that we all would resonate with and agree with: your words flow so seamlessly too. Love it! Pleasure reading …Sending you light

Silpika, Using the whole world as farm will not work. The accounting we use ignores the cost of environmental damage. If business included those numbers, most would be showing a loss and we'd realize the looming collapse. Yet in USA we have a presidential candidate who wants to drill more, denies climate change, and ignores science. While President Biden in not perfect, at least he understands these things. Many of us know we are in trouble. Your poem is on target.

Silpika...I have noticed that even small acts make a huge difference. Just changing the way water drains on one's own property has a huge impact on all the plants and animals that use this water. We all have to be very careful with what we do. I realize you are not speaking in political, but rather human terms. I can't help commenting on the societal implications of our choice of officials. I have done a lot of those that are not flattering to some people. You are on target with what's happening.

Thanks for the analysis, I felt, the need of hour. There is one person, who has converted a desert like sandar into a dense forest. If a single person can do much, why can't a group. My poem is nothing political, just an awareness generation compilation, so that if we vow to plant a single tree, there won't take much time for the ecosystem to be get revived. I really need critic and you have done an excellent job by pointing out. I truly appreciate.

Humanity is a notable contributor to the many ills of this world. To purposefully to destroy for the pure sake to destroy--nothing more--just to destroy ... would have garnered worldwide intervention. <--- Continue) The volcano clears our forest and plantations and the tidal waves digs out our shores. Previous and recent events have caused a third of our island move away and naught come back because there is nothing to come back--years to be able to grow again, but not for land swept out to sea--nature destroys too, at least for us it does. Hello Silpika, isn't it sad that the so-called "Most intelligent species on the Earth" will end up being responsible for destroying the ability of our planet to sustain life, including our own? You're right though, just seeing the problem will not remedy it. It is going to take more than talk to save ourselves from ourselves. It looks like the Moribund Lungs are suffering from lung cancer. Let's hope we find a cure before it's too late.

Lastly a a loud spoken word that should be echoed in the Canyons and Valleies. A mystic environmental truth peace. Liken Marvin Gaye's 1970 Mercy Mercy Me ( the Ecology) Even a modern day rap songs Rainforce might be "once" past rhetoric ~Prudent plantation is the optimum solution evident "Write On"

I see you are a thoughtful, intelligent observer of mankind and this poetic indictment is brutally honest and painful to read. Humanity seems bent on ruining this planet home due to greed, apathy, ignorance. However, I believe Jesus will return and stop the assault before earth is at the point of no return - See Revelation 11:18; Matthew 5:5 Bible

Well done Silpika, when spelt out like this the size of the man made problem is practically impossible to argue against, I say practically because there will always be deniers, especially ones with a vested interest in making vast amounts of money out of the deforestation process, ironically Amazon comes to mind as one of many, kudos to you for writing this no nonsense piece! Cheers David
