I feel his hot breath upon my cheek Hurrying to devour, wishing me dead Singling me out as if I were a freak I silence the fears as I hear his critique Stifling my tears, he fills me with dread I feel his hot breath upon my cheek I scream for help – I shriek and I shriek Tormenting thoughts are soon widespread Singling me out as if I were a freak I realize my heart feels dark, so bleak Shadows of grief bring tortures unsaid I feel his hot breath upon my cheek I doubt all the joy that I once did seek Silencing my dreams – his loathing fed Singling me out as if I were a freak I only know him as my enemy, the sneak The devil who ruins – in the bible I read I feel his hot breath upon my cheek Singling me out as if I were a freak FIRST PERSON VILLANELLE Poetry Contest Sponsored by: L MILTON HANKINS August 11, 2022
