Notes About The Poem

Santa Benched

Wow, Mrs. Claus’ mood change was surely swift!
Hmph, a rift just cause she must wait to use her gifts …
Ho, Ho, NO! Time out? MY name on the naughty list?
This retired, old deer as my guard should I resist?

I must sit in seclusion on the North Pole Park bench??!
My neck hurts from quick turns that muscle-wrench
each time I look to see if Mrs. Claus has appeared
with my due apology and a mood not mad geared.

Oh, elven mercy! I turn again, as does my betrayer guard,
from the wind that sends yonder deer’s rear discard.
Surely that deer and my Mrs. are in mutual accord
for I recognize the disgruntled deer, Buns Pootord.

I’m so tired from my yearly moon flight to all families
and leaving prized gifts for all the personalities.
I tried reasoning with Mrs. Claus for patience, please!
She loved her presents, so why these brutalities …
just because I gave away all the batteries?

What a lovely entertaining poem this is, CayCay! Just a slight family tiff, and I can assure you that I won't be taking sides:) I will make sure not to mention batteries when we next meet. Regards // paul

I'm so glad to find you visited and enjoyed reading about Santa's timeout. I'm sure the Mrs. has let him in by now and that they've reconciled, also, surely the elves have made more batteries by now! Merry Christmas, Paul! Poetry hugs ... CayCay

"Buns Pootord"? I think that I met a reindeer with that last name a few years ago. A fantastic Christmas poem but, I do feel a bit for Santa; with all that he has to do, he has to keep inventorying the batteries. Great piece.

"Elvin Mercy," this is so witty CayCay. Sorry Santa is downwind of Buns Pootord. Next time Santa will save some batteries for Mrs. Claus. LOL Great humor should make for a great win. (This is one of the funniest things I've read in a long time.) Hugs, Carolyn

Your enthusiastic and generous comment made my day, Carolyn, and I am most grateful to you for that. I have no idea if Sara Kendrick is one who detests potty humor so I feel my write a bit risky, but I can't argue with my muse's creative leanings. Poetry hugs ... CayCay
