Minuanetta
Invented by Gregory R Barden it's comprised of at least six stanzas, each stanza consistent with itself in rhyme, and decreasing in the number of lines with each stanza, with the final stanza created of one line of the rhyme of each stanza, a rhyme scheme of AAAAA, BBBB, CCC, DD, E, ABCDE.
Sad times are heading our way
global warming is here, and it's here to stay.
Oceans are rising; time is ticking away,
we didn't listen to what science had to say,
and gambled tomorrow's future for profit and play.
We don't treat our planet as we should,
yet spread the lie; all is good.
And giving little thought to brotherhood,
we're only concerned with our neighborhood.
Children die of hunger in a world of plenty,
as the rich drain the poor, penny by penny,
consuming all, leaving little, if any.
Guns have replaced the dog as Man's best friend,
we won't abandon them, even if it means our end.
Hurricanes are morphing into monstrous storms.
And still, no one listens to scientists today,
depleting jungles to meet our demand for wood.
Planet-wide pollution caused by so many
continues to rise as we overextend,
and soon, saturation will establish new norms.
