Notes About The Poem

Sad Surprise

Cherish your treasured families and friends
'Fore it too late, and one wears that shroud
You know, we never know, when someone's life ends
Soften your voice, yet speak it out loud
A good life thrives on love, not hate
Thus, taught to us whilst in our youth
And folks- we learn to appreciate
Those loyal and honest spoken words of truth
Heartbreaks hardened... oh, those saddened eyes
Yesterday here, and just like that- ashes
Surprise, surprise... another one dies
And sadly, one's entire world- crashes
So, love your friends and families you cherish
And remember not to hate, and to love thy neighbor
Tomorrow, another loved one might perish
And wear that shroud, to the almighty, creator

Great message. We don't know when death strikes. My sister died at 16, I am surviving at 85 while my sister-in-law is 98. It is a holy death that we should pray for. Loved your poem. Wishing you a Happy Easter.

You are so right. Death of a loved one is THE number one of sad surprises. Gosh, dying did not even occur to me, so I did Svengle instead! Your poem is so well written

As we get older we see many friends and family wearing that shroud. We should never put off making contact with those dear to us because they could be gone in a flash, and then its too late. Tom

Yes, Tom. I guess that's part of life. We are fortunate to have made it this far... so many of our acquaintances have perished way too soon. Charlie

Years ago, I began writing letters, (although nearby) to mother, she wrote back & it became a thing & an opportunity for me to thank her for the memory that came to me at the moment. I'm sure it was a pre-curser to engage in writing poetry. We are good, so good. I still have every letter years worth, & still have my mother~ Ty for sharing what truly is important, & great advice! Charlie. xX hugs
