Sad Lonely Girl

She sits by the window with coffee in hand Watching the raindrops tapping on the glass Her mind revisits that high school year again With the same questions to herself she asked Those teenage years of chaos and confusion Where thoughts and hormones run riot Just finding her way and wanting to fit in Kept both her conscience and voice quiet She remembers so vividly that high school year It tortures her with sadness and shame If she could only she could go back and do it differently Perhaps the outcome would have not been the same She participated in the bullying of the sad lonely girl Though her heart knew it was wrong So she wouldn’t be their victim Safety from the bullies kept her strong She remembers that day in the school canteen When this sad lonely girl was again cowardly chosen She saw the silent tears rolled down her cheek In that moment her mind and heart were frozen She saw the pure pain and in her lonely sad eyes As she sat as always on her own She desperately wanted to reach out to her Comfort her and tell her “Its ok you’re not alone” Yet so fearful of becoming a victim She felt cowardly and weak Intimidated by their unrelenting cruelness She just laughed, walked passed and did not speak That day is forever seared in her mind A day of complete horror and doom An immediate school assembly was called Informing students the sad lonely girl was found hanging in her room!

These things happen and have been happening way too long. Teens need and always have needed a venue for facing and dealing with all of their conflicting emotions and urges. Schools and workplaces just try to sweep them under the rug. And that's when this stuff happens. Tragic, but poignantly penned, Deb. ~ gw

your poem brought tears to my eyes, Deb. I have two adult children with mental health issues that isolates them from people and family, it is heartbreaking and far too common. Your beautiful poem speaks volumes of truth, sadly. You have mail X
