Notes About The Poem

Sad Christmas Without You

There’s an empty space at the table I have a ready meal for one It’s the first year without you I can’t prepare a meal Now I’m on my own I’m grief stricken Sweet angel I miss You. This Christmas I’m alone. My family Live so far away They sent me some presents But they remain un-opened There’s bound to be white handkerchiefs … They’ll be useful to mop up my tears. Checked with how many syllables - 45 per stanza It’s Christmas Time Again Contest Sponsored by Broken Wings 11-28-17

Very sad. Sad done well, it worked - I was brought straight down! I am thankful for the day you embraced writing, Jan - your light at Soup has much meaning for so many, and writes like these continue to amaze/delight me. Thinking of you. Love ... CayCay

Awesome poem. The word 'mop' in the last line, surprises yet is SO perfect ... it's unpretentious, it's something a woman normally does alone quietly humbly without fanfare. Extremely touching poem, Jan.

Jan: One more time you prove your wide range of writing talents. I could never do that. I'm strictly a "rhyme line 2, skip a line, rhyme line 4 kind of old rhymester. Thank you for sharing your talents with all of us on the soup. Keep them coming. Good luck on the contest. oldbuck

I have always loved writing in rhyme that's probably why I love writing limericks so much, but the contests have made me challenge myself to try different forms and I learn something new every day. Its amazing that as a result of my hubbies cancer surgery i have a hobby I love:-) I have never been creative so it is a little bit of a shock how I have embraced writing:-) hugs jan xx

People who live alone, become more aware of their loneliness at Christmas. Christmas commercials on TV serve constant reminders that Christmas is for happy families. Loved your special poem, good luck in the contest, regards as always, Kevin xx
