Sacrifices

Give us the pain,
the hunger,
the lust.

You judge
our vivid emotions

with straight bitterness
and angst.

In the veiled,
shy gloom
where we sit,

preaching
our wisdom—

a work of art,
a craft.

We speak
with universal themes,

battles
with self-esteem.

You judge
our self-worth,

rejecting
our executed potential

with your childish sarcasm.

Immovable blackness—
anger
and resentment.

The unfairness
of life.

Are we
deficient?

Our beautiful images,
our overzealous light—

our sacrifices,

devoured
and discarded.
