Sacrifice

Know, soldier, that the tears you shed
over your fallen brothers' blood
are not shed in shame;
let them rain.

Know that their sacrifice
will never be forgotten,
never mean less than everything;
we remember them, always.

Know that we welcome them home
with hearts and arms open,
ready to deliver them to their hallowed rest;
they've more than earned it.

Know, soldier, that each and every one of you
is owed a debt that can never be repaid,
for a burden you never begrudged;
for such is the way of heroes.
