S O S - Writer Down

An inspiration surges through your brain.
If only you can organize, maintain
Your poignant words, a slingshot to release,
With measured aim, this writer's block defeat.

You tally once, then twice and start again
With phrasing even you don't understand.
You feel your venture crash against a wall
And watch your efforts shatter, as they fall.

Another golden moment from your past,
On stanza two, You read your lines, aghast.
You have no weapon strong enough to wield,
The composition slows, then limps and yields.

The message, once so clear, has left your mind.
The task you started, now you leave behind.
Your head, still full of thoughts, but none engage.
You grant a rest to your exhausted page.

I know exactly what you mean, Gene: Stuck in this track myself for quite a while. I appreciate sharing this frustration with you. No other recourse at time but to await the elusive Muse, Blessings, SuZ

I love this poem. I just read it about five times in a row. I could feel my current frustrations in your words. As if you were writing from my own mind. I've been reading your other poems as well. Very intelligent man you seem to be. Excellent and engaging writing.

Thanks so much, Steph. I've suffered this condition many times and have currently been trying to finish a poem I've been working on for several days. I usually file them away, then come back...and discover a key line or phrase. I appreciate your kind comments.... Your PS friend....Gene.

I've never really looked at it as a block, rather to give my mind space to flow at its own speed, not the speed I want..you nailed it Gene, every poet has been there

Fred, sometimes I rush an idea and chase it away. Good advice from a poet I respect. Thanks, Fred....YF....Gene.
