Rural North Dakota

Rural North Dakota, fields and scattered farms. Social distancing in peace, we all bear arms. I live in the central flyway for all ducks and geese. No locked doors or hidden keys, dogs and guns keep the peace. Winters are long and cold, we are left alone to freeze. Spring brings forth the long awaited Summer's early warm breeze. It's a bit flat here, some beautiful rolling hills. Only farmland and open country, plenty of nature's frills. Four wheelers and a side by side, a couple of dirt bikes for the kids. Unwanted visitors do not come, the law of this land forbids. Absolute freedom, fields of corn and the edible bean. My world is far out of reach, from the Covid 19.

I love your description of where you live Mark, you are so lucky to live in a remote area miles away from the virus that is sweeping the world. I too like my own space but also like company when it suits:-) off into the garden now - we are lucky to have somewhere to escape to from the confines of four walls:-) hugs Jan xx

Thanks Jan, I agree I am very lucky. This is actually the house I grew up in. Have fun in your garden. Peace my friend.

Mark, isolation has its pros and cons. I guess if you're an extrovert with a craving for people it could feel lonely, but peaceful and calm for the rest. And certainly far away from the germs of strangers that we city folk have to protect against. Nice write, Mark and congrats to you ~ John

Thanks Andrea! I don't take it for granted that's for sure. I've lived here since I was 3. I watched my mother and father die in this house. I raised my two boys in the house. Life is good I love it.

My husband would have loved the place where you live. He was my hunter and a heart for the wooded hills without the cold freeze. He even fabricated wooden sheds in the backyard to rebuild on the hills then the warden changed that and back to tents and his easy-chair. :) Great imagery and nicely penned. Stay safe

I know many people won't agree with me when I say this but an armed society is a safe society. Every house out here for miles is all hunters and everyone is armed. Nobody and I mean nobody ventures out here for criminal activity. They just know better.

For years my friends couldn't figure out why I would want to stay here. I've occupied this piece of ground for 47 years, and it is quiet and isolated. Even right now as I type in my shop I can hear the geese flying over head as they are a bit noisy. Most of my friends moved and now live in big cities. Now they get it, they finally understand why I love it here. My family is kept safe from all harm here.
