Running away from Home

when I think of running away from home
what do I want to take?
a little food would be good
peanut butter and crackers for sure
I put them into my backpack

do I need my jewelry? Not really.
Two t-shirts, a pair of shorts, some long pants
Maybe one nightie
Tennis shoes and socks, but no dress shoes

two credit cards, and three hundred dollars cash.
cell phone, insurance card, car key, a pillow and blanket
copy of my resume’, notebook, pen
I open the car door and my three dogs jump inside.

I go back into the house to get three more pillows and dog food.
