You little rascals! My sis packed her suitcase with stuffed animals, made it to bottom of steep driveway then cried, "I don't want to leave" such is childhood. So endearing, sweet Sara!

Read your comments. Oh what dread! My Dad stopped spanking when I was very young. I don’t think he liked it. Unfortunately, a switch in the hands of a mean or unthinking person is cruel. I never dealt with a switch and its mental effects.

Kim, I can imagine the fear that your little sister had when she had only gone a small way and was faced with the big world out there and the steep hill to come back up to get back home. Thanks for sharing this information about your life with us. Sara K

Kids nowadays dont know what switches are. The tricycle added a certian demintion that told of your age. Spare the rod spoil the child.

John, the Bible says that about sparing the rod. However, I think that one should use a different approach to discipline if at all possible. Anyway, I survived the whipping and so did my nephew/cousin. We did not run away again. I married and left home at 17 though. Thanks for the visit. Sara K

I think all children go through this phase- its called 'just being a child'. If we think back it when we are adults, it makes an amusing conversation, each one telling their own run away from home little tale. Thank you for sharing Sara, hope you are keeping well. Hugs and blessings, Jennifer.

Thank you for thoughts of wellness, Jennifer. We are doing as well as can be expected considering age, health and life in general. So far, we have been blessed with no colds, flu or COVID in the family this fall. I hope you and your family are doing well also. Yes, I think most children do have that urge to run away at some point and with teens they are wanting to leave as soon as possible and be on their own. LOL..They have no idea, do they? Sara K

Dear Sara, I had to smile because my one younger sister and I were going to run away and I believe we went about a 1/2 mile before turning back. We even packed our food. lol! Loved the memory! Autumn Blessings, My Dear Friend, Daniel

Daniel, wonderful that this brought back a memory. One of my children said she was going to run away when she was little, but she stayed to eat then forgot about running away. Maybe low blood glucose levels. LOL..Sara K

Mother, all by herself was really good with those privet switches. It was even worse when she sent me out to get the switch and then when she had to go out and get one which was much longer and thicker it was even worse. Thanks for the visit, Joe. I appreciate the understanding review. Sara K

Childhood and its sweet and sour memories bring nostalgic moments to mind! I loved the image of two cute children riding on a tricycle. Both of you look so adorable. Great senryu series, dear Sara.

Thank you, Valsa. Just a picture off the internet. Strange memories stick in our brain sometimes. I don't remember why we were being punished but that we were. Your visit is encouraging. Sara K

SO, I guess we do as you said, "silly things". I remember when one of my children said she was going to run away, so I said, where are you going. She said up to her grandmother's house. I told her it was close to dinner time, and she was going to have to walk, so she might want to wait until she ate her evening meal then we would pack and let her go on her way. After she ate, she did not want to go. LOL..She was ready to stay at home. Thanks for the visit. Sara K

Not so a happy memory Sara, it's not until we're older that we realise there's no place like home.. Tom

IE, thanks for the kind review. It was not fun at the time, and I was thinking now what I learned from that experience. I learned not to run away from those in authority, people larger than you can treat you anyway and get by with it, and a whole lot of fear. Thanks for the visit. Sara K
