Roses Under My Window

My rose bushes have bloomed
the three I planted last year
after digging up the dead ones
that had never thrived there
though it’s a sunny spot
suitable for roses
under the picture window
of my living room
with the paper peeling
off the walls
and its water stained
plaster ceiling
Petals of bold wine red
so beautiful to behold
I almost shed a tear
so seldom do I see such a sight
I would share a picture
of them with you if I thought
for one moment you might care
but I’m sure that you don’t
for you could buy a big bouquet
of resplendent roses everyday
delivered right to your door
