Roses Left Upon the Grave

Heads hung low
   they withered and died
Condemned
   though they'd not sinned

Clipped red roses
  placed at graveside
Their sweet fragrance
  pilfered by the wind

Cold white marble
     wet from tears cried
Etched name caressed
    heart deeply chagrined

Thank you, Paula. I noticed this contest so just entered something I'd written near the end of my time here.

I remember you told me Jan, where there's a will there's a relative, how true that is. Lin check out billys revenge if you got a moment, think you'll like it.

love your reply Lin. I worked in insurance and relatives would turn up with 'penny policies' and be very disappointed when they got a few pounds and not a nest egg from a relation they barely saw:-( My philosophy is if they can;t buy me flowers when I'm alive they are no darn use when I'm dead:-( hugs Jan

They are just the saddest things, Tom, whether death was expected or not. It only seems to hurt family members. If people wanted to visit, they should've done it while the living breathed.

Thank you for feeling this one, Jan. I'm not at all sure how or why it presented itself to me, but there it was.
