Rose In the Garden

I am far from enamoured by the Rose.
The colour most gifted is often red.
Unoriginal it is mostly chose.
Men lay soft petals upon lover’s bed.

Do women not imagine so much more?
Other flowers that will not prick their skin!
Instead perhaps bright Sunflowers adore.
Neglecting other blossoms is a sin.

Select a yearning yellow daffodil,
or single splendid Poets Narcissus.
With these a glass vase I would rather fill.
Could they not garner a passionate kiss?

I’m enamoured by her in every way,
as I watch sweet Rose in the garden play.

This is a unique poem about a rose. I love the imagery. How each line was woven into a beautiful gem. Lovely!

As Papyrus said, a rose is a cliché, but it's a cliché of the early 20th century. At the beginning of the 21st one it is not a cliché but a literary weed in a postmodernist's garden. I have roses in my garden too. I even smoke them from time 2 time) It's a perfect sonnet, Richard.

I like this for the choices and options of other flowers. This poem offers good thought into the choice of choosing. I would love to have flowers of any kind. They are all beautiful in their own way. Like poems!

It is cliche, red roses. Instead of bringing flowers, take her to a botanical garden to be one with the bouquet, and discover the one's she love.

Tried to leave a comment ..didnt pass through.Let me try again. All flowers carry a certain beauty ..Sunflowers and daffodils can look just as beautiful in a vase.A rose is always a rose admired by most, yet my faves are the wild daisy and white cala lily..Lovely poem Rick.As always you're one of thw best poets I admire.

Hi Richard, love the content of your excellent Sonnet. There is beauty to be found in most flowers but for some reason the rose is synomonous with love. The rose, a poetic device has sung through the ages. I do love the colours and shapes of so many different flowers. I could spend hours sitting in a garden. I have to admit, any roses and that would be my eyes first port of call. Excellent Sonnet Richard. Good luck in the contest Richard. Have a wonderful saturday. Your friend always....Mike.

ahh, but the girl Rose has taken your heart!! I love all the flowers, but I guess the rose I particularly like because it grows each year and I do not have to do a thing to keep my rose bushes growing!! Great job for the contest, Richard.

Hi Richard, This is a good Sonett for the contest. As common as it is for a girl to a rose, I welcome the rose. It's a nice gesture and Iike roses. I wish you the best of luck in the contest:-) Alexis

Love the word play and clever ending to the poem. I'm not a rose fan, I don't grow them and hubby has never bought me them so i would find it hard to write for this contest, much prefer carnations and now have over 30 orchid plants in my front room. the rose may be a favourite with many poems but not with me:-) good luck in the contest:-) hugs jan xx

Beauty is within, and within lies the beauty the beautiful flower- or rose. I would love to feel an array of flowers caressing me. The romance of it all. Very pleasing to the senses indeed. Soft sigh. ~ Brandy
