Role Models

Here’s how you do it
   Let me show you
Be it art, music, or carpentry
   A role model is key

Yet when it comes to parenting
   Not every parent shows
For not every parent is qualified
As their children all too well know

Yep, that "do as I say, not as I do" thing really caught on. Nice rhyme, Gershon. A poet friend in Texas, Bill

True hypocrisy! (An oxymoron in and of itself, come to think of it)! Cheers, Gershon

They surely do know it on some level, maybe subconscious, but you cannot fool a child!

It is always desirable to have a role model ! But parents shouldn't always feel that they are role models to their children ! Be prepared to accept that they know better than the parents themselves and many a time can perform much better. Great thoughts well presented, Gershon

Well, I guess I disagree a bit here, Valsa. Whether they like it or not, when that three-year-old child stares up at that towering figure, mom or dad is a substitute for God. So, it is up to us to walk in His ways, to teach our kids right from wrong, and to love them with all our hearts...

Ah, this is such an important truth, gw. Thanks for recognizing and versifying on an all too self-evident problem these days. My niece is a social worker who works with children. The situations she runs into in her practice are horrifying and most of them go back to lousy parenting skills.

Yup. If teachers can ruin kids' lives, all the more so parents can.
