Rocky Mountain Rain

Thunder rolls above the peaks Lightning racing in blinding streaks Clouds hanging over canyon walls Waiting, waiting for the rain to fall Lightning explodes against the cliffs Flashes of light from heaven, itself Thunder roars its mighty drum Waiting, waiting for the rain to come Flames piercing the blazing heart Rips the mountain as it tears apart Still, rain does not appear, Teasing the mountain as not to hear The bounding beat of nature’s drum Waiting, waiting for the rain to come A vertical lake of water it came The mountain rose up to meet, To welcome, to embrace the rain

Your poem oozes atmosphere Patrick - I love the theme of 'waiting' that weaves through it. I can almost smell the rain.

Wonderful imagery, Patrick. I felt the build up to the rain. Bill

Patrick, I really enjoyed your poem. It made me think of my childhood home up in the West Virginia hills. Very good writing. Thanks!
